African Tulip (Spathodea)
African Tulip
Your fantastic bloom
Is all over the Caribbean
You can do amazing things
The water, they say
Gathered in the cup
Of your flaming red flower
Is not for hummingbirds only
That drinking it cures asthma
That making love under your tree
Keeps pregnancy away
Local lore I’m sure
But nonetheless, a great story
