Galibi (Amerindian Nature Reserve)
Strand van Indianen
Aan de monding
Van de Marowijne
Waar zeeschildpadden
En flessen drank
Vrijelijk aanspoelen
De vis van vannacht
Op de barbakot zal drogen
En het elfje kort zingt
Eer het gegrepen wordt
Door het onverbiddelijke
Van een natuur
Die niet wacht
Galibi (translation)
Sandy beach
Of Amerindians
At the mouth of the Maroni
Where sea turtles
And bottles of liquor
Freely wash ashore
The fish caught tonight
Will be dried on the barbakot
And the fairy briefly sings
Before it is seized
By the inexorable
Of a nature
That doesn’t wait
