Country Woman
Back curved she sits
On a small bench
Skirts pulled up
Over sturdy knees
Washtub in between
Sweat on her face
Scrubbing on a washboard
Like there’s no city life
The sum of generations
Before her and more
Pausing occasionally
To straighten her back
With a painful grimace
