Kindergeluiden (Child Sounds)
Kinderstemmen!
Kijkend uit het raam
Zie ik scholieren plezieren
Met schoffel en wagen
Vermeng de generaties
Op dit rochelende hof
Van het grote vergeten
Dacht iemand zeker
En ik zeg: Bingo!
Want wat is leven anders
Zonder kinderlied
Dan een stille klaagzang
Van onverteerd verdriet?
Child Sounds (Translation)
Children’s Voices!
Looking out the window
I see students having fun
With hoe and wagon
Mix the generations
In this gurgling courtyard
Of the great forgetting
One may have thought
And I say: Bingo!
For what is life
Without children’s song
Other than a silent lament
Of undigested grief?
