When an Old Man dies
An African proverb says
“When an old man dies
A library burns to the ground”
I remember all those stories
Being passed down to me
For the next generations
But this time they will be written
And securely conserved
As with degradation of memory
Comes loss of cultural identity
The lives that lived those stories
Must be honored and celebrated
At all times
