Gratitude and Humor ~ (Suriname)
“I was not at all aware
You were watching me like that”
Says my grandmother
After she read a poem I wrote
In her honor
How a little boy wondered
Why she had to work so hard
Washing and ironing
Other people’s dirty laundry
For little money
Telling stories about ordinary life
With profound gratitude
And an unbeatable sense of humor
