The Apple Tree
Huge a challenge
It stands before me
The apple tree
Embracing the stem
Sends an irresistible urge
To climb and conquer
Each battle won
Rewarded the sweetness
Of juicy fruits
***
Some make it big
While others are left
The agony of defeat
***
Back in the old neighborhood
I find the little house gone
And so is the tree
Strange a sadness comes over me
But then again
In me they live on
